10th Cut Final Cut Wrap-Up! (330+ Films reviewed so far)

When I started typing this wrap-up a few days ago I was sitting in an airport in Atlanta, waiting for my connection to Pittsburgh.  I had it about 90% done, but then I was out in the city today when my husband texted me about real life horror less than a mile from where I was standing.  I specifically avoid politics, or anything of that ilk, on this website but I've never shied away from being open about my life and experiences.

I've said this before, but my mom used to say that she watched horror because it made the everyday things less scary.  A supernatural slasher or strange atomic creature combined with your imagination is much more frightening than dealing with bills or your 9-to-5.  Unfortunately for us, real monsters exist.  There aren't many, but they're out there.  Yet, for every Jason that exists in this camp of life there are thousands if not millions of camp counselors out there all willing to stop him.  Every Elm Street is full of of hundreds of teenagers all looking to prevent Freddy from harming anyone.  We, as horror fans, are a community.  We, as humans, are a community.

So if you, or someone you know, needs help of any form then there are a lot of resources out there for you.  There's never any shame in reaching out when you need it most.

There's a line that's stuck in my head from the band Behind Enemy Lines, and that's:
"We're in this together / Don't shut out one another / Don't ever forget that we depend on each other."

With all of that said, what's going on with 30DoP?

Since the next two months are going to be busy with holidays and such I plan on taking them off from the website and returning in January.  It's much easier to handle watching films and reviewing them when I'm not juggling work, holidays, and travel the whole time.

I'll still do occasional posts and as I get screeners I'll post the Saturday Screamers.

9th Cut: Final Cut -- 300 Films reviewed thus far!

I can't believe I've watched and reviewed 300 films for this website already (more if you count the Saturday Screamers now).  When I started doing this I didn't really have an expected timeline of how long I was going to work on this, but it has been over two years thus far and I'm not really slowing down.  Instead I keep looking for more to add to this, which I think is what a person is supposed to do but I'm not sure.  I'm just going with what feels right.

That said, we're wrapping up our 9th Cut.  This has probably been one of our better Cuts as far as having films I actually liked.  We started with The Lost Boys, had The Devil's Candy, and the over-the-top Daemonium: Soldiers of the Underworld which were probably my stand outs.  On the flip side, there are still those films that made me lose my goddamn mind while slogging through their absurd attempts at film making (not that I have ever written or made a film, but isn't that what makes critics great?  Even then that doesn't count for much because Roger Ebert wrote Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, so...).  The unnecessary Cabin Fever remake and Welcome to Willits come to mind right away for the shallow end of the pool.

So what's coming up with 30 Days of Plight?  Well, this is our break period but I'm going to try to keep up with at least one update a week, even if it's just a Saturday Screamer because I have a few more screeners to work through.  Also, I've been having a lot of trouble with Netflix when it comes to the D&D dice roll choice formula.  Having watched 300 films, anytime I roll a number greater than 30 then most of the films listed I've already watched.  So what does this mean for the 10th Cut?  Well, since we're entering double digits I'm going to do a special cut.  Over the years I've amassed a ton of questionable films that I haven't had the chance to watch.  In order to let Netflix catch up, and catch up myself, I'm going into the 30 Days of Plight video archives and pulling 30 random films from that for the 10th Cut.

Most of these films are going to be things I've picked up from $1 bins, used DVD stores, or exist on cheap movie multi-packs.  So get ready for a ton of shit you might never have heard of.  I already know of one that I have that stars Fred Durst so that just lets you know what to expect.

So Monday September 10th will be the start of our 10th Cut.

8th Cut : Final Cut : 270 Films Reviewed

Alright!  Two years down and 270 films watched and reviewed on this website!  Speaking of which, I'm looking into some way to index them on here, but slowly.  This is now my down time where I get to catch up on reading, video games, and watching things other than random horror movies.

With that in mind, I am going to do things a little bit different with this break.  I'm going to try to do at least one post a week, just to keep some fresh content on here during that time.  I'm set to do an interview with Brad Twigg (producer/director) of Wrestle Massacre.  That film is due to come out in the next few months and I couldn't pass up the chance to reach out to someone that's doing a wrestling horror film.  I'm going to also reach out to some other smaller films and try to get some interviews or screeners.

7th Cut / Final Cut: 240 Movies Reviewed So Far

Once again we wrap up another Cut and I'm looking forward to a much needed break.  I love horror but subjecting myself to boring or just bad films makes me feel like I'm stuck on the Satellite of Love only without quirky robot friends to keep my sanity.  Instead I develop something more akin to Ren & Stimpy's "space madness."

 So what is going on with 30 Days of Plight while I'm taking my break between cuts?  A lot actually:

I'm waiting on an Elgato to arrive so I can do proper streams of horror games over on my Twitch channel which is Twitch.TV/30DaysOfPlight.  I'm looking to do at least an hour or two once a week during this break.  A lot of Friday the 13th The Game will be shown and I'll be announcing those streams on our Twitter and Facebook.

I'm working on a t-shirt design to sell through an online vendor which will hopefully be available at the start of the 8th Cut.

I'm going to start reaching out to try to get some screeners of newer films and once that starts then I'll be doing a "Screener Saturday" once or twice a Cut.

Speaking of format changes, I'm going to be going back to a Monday-Friday post schedule for our regular reviews.  The Sunday-Thursday existed because of my previous work schedule but being that I'm Fun-employed for the time being I can go back to a normal set-up.  What does this mean about my Friday's Choice Cuts?  I haven't been avoiding them, there just hasn't been a lot I've come across that I've felt like talking about.  More than likely I'll just shift these to open Saturdays or maybe I'll keep them for a second post on some Fridays.  They're kind of nebulous at this point.

Final Cut for the 6th Cut!

So we come to the end of another Cut here at 30 Days of Plight.  This pushes to total movie count to over 180 films with no sign of stopping.  Except I am going to take a short break to catch up on other things I haven't been watching before I start the 7th Cut.  However this won't all be down time.  I have a couple of things planned.

First, I'll be an upcoming guest on the fantastic podcast Rank & Vile.  Quincy and Ryan were nice enough to ask me to come on and we'll be discussing and ranking three films for their already epic list of horror, wrestling, and video nasties.   You can find them on iTunes at Rank & Vile or on Podbean at Rankandvile.podbean.com.  I would recommend checking them out even if I wasn't going to be a guest on the show because they know their shit in regards to both horror and wrestling and it's a fun podcast to listen to.

Second, I'm going to be doing a horror film advent calendar this year.  Calling it The 13 Days of Christmas, starting on the 13th of December and running up to and including the 25th, I will be reviewing one Christmas themed horror film each day.  If I have to suffer through terrible crowds and PA piped in carols then I'm going to soften the blow from Old Saint Nick's southpaw hook.  My only exception is that I already covered A Christmas Horror Story on here so I won't be covering it again.

Finally, I'll be starting the 7th Cut of 30 Days of Plight on Sunday, January 7th.  In the meantime look for the advent calendar I mentioned and we do have a Facebook and Twitter you can follow by clicking on the links on the right or searching 30daysofplight.

Friday Final Cut: 5th Cut

Dipper represents me.  That tree represents a good chunk of the films I watched this Cut.  I gave one-fifth of the films this time around a zero and a majority of those are because they were really slow and/or had a recycled plot.  In truth I would probably give more zeroes except I began to look for decent elements.  Visuals, concepts (even if not realized well), acting, whatever has now factored in a bit more than before.  I don't know if I'm scraping the barrel or the barrel is just empty when it comes to good horror.  Only four of this Cut's films were made before 2010 so what does that say of the state of a majority of current horror?

On the flip side, I did get to watch some great films such as Tales of Halloween (5/5) and White Coffin (4/5).  Also there was the revisit to the classic Young Frankenstein.  So it wasn't all red hot pokers in my eyes.  Speaking of which, one of the things I'm going to work on during this break is trying to set up at sidebar for some of the best films I've watched.  It has been mentioned to me that people want to know some good films to watch but no one wants to scroll through 166 films to what's good.

Bouncing off of that, yes, to date I have watched and reviewed 166 films for this blog (counting the short Cut 3.5).  It's a crazy feeling to look at that number.  It's an even crazier feeling to look at my handy list of films I've watched and know that at this moment there are movies I already forgot about that are from just 6 weeks ago.  Although, that list has saved my life and yours this cut because a I re-rolled a lot of movies I've watched previously.  You could've had two additional Hellraiser reviews this cut otherwise.

Wrapping this up, I'm looking forward to this break.  Living in New Orleans, this is our crazy hot season and unfortunately the AC in the room where I watch these is the loudest AC to ever exist.  It makes it tough to watch a film at midnight when I have to blast it over the noise.  The other option is to melt like a meat popcicle in the heat for an hour and half.

I'm also excited because when I begin the next Cut, it will be October!  So starting Sunday, October 8th will be the 6th Cut.  I'm already working on ideas for something special for Halloween as well.  I doubt I'm going to do another video but it'll be something fun.  Until then...

Friday Final Cut!

We did it!  After some rockiness a few months ago we got this cut started and finished!  I don't know if it was worth it because holy fuck were there a ton of zeros this time.

Actually, I do really like doing this.  Despite every piece of trash I slog through I did get some great ones.  The winner this time would probably be Beyond the Gates since I bought the damn movie.  The loser is whatever that fucking Indian horror movie was for 8-year-olds.  Fuck that shit.

I also want to say thanks for everyone that stuck with me while I got this rolling again; the occassional comment or message to help with the site, every like on Facebook.  All of that stuff.  Mostly though, thanks for reading the curse laiden posts which sprawl across this blog.  I'm not sure how the fuck the "views" thing works really but it says we passed 10,000 views in just over a year.

So please, share this with your friends, your family, people you want to make uncomfortable with swearing and talk of my penis, fellow horror fans, you know...
